Obituary

Vaia Zoidis (née Kontis), 78, of New Milford, (formerly of the Throgs Neck Section of the Bronx, NY), died February 6, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.  Survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Constantinos, her devoted daughters, Aggie Sahlaras, Nicholeta Arseniu and her husband Demetris.  Cherished grandmother of Angelo Sahlaras, Constantinos and Alexia Arseniu.  Beloved sister of Anastasia Pantages and her late husband, Steven Pantages,  and Haido Papavassliou and her loving husband, Konstantinos Papavassliou.  Predeceased by her two brothers and three sisters.

Vaia was born in Kalabaka, Thessalia, Greece to the late Vasiliki (née Gizaris) and Adam Kontis.  She emigrated to the U.S. in 1960, and was a seamstress in the garment district of New York City for many years.  

Funeral Liturgy Saturday, Feb. 9th, 10:30 AM, St. Athanasios Greek Orthodox Church, Paramus, NJ.  Interment George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.  Visiting Friday, Feb. 8th, 4-9 PM, with a Trisagion Service 7 PM, at the Beaugard-McKnight Funeral Home, 869 Kinderkamack Road, River Edge, NJ.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vaia’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105; www.stjude.org
