Judith M. Messmer (née McEwan), 84, of Paramus, passed away on June 26, 2026 at home surrounded by her loving family. Judith is survived by her devoted children; Donald Messmer and wife Susan, Barbara Parks and husband Robert, Craig Messmer and wife Lyn. Cherished grandmother of eight grandchildren, Samantha and husband Alex, Danny and wife Jessica, Michael, Caroline, Ryan, Ella, Emily, and Liam, and great-grandmother of four great-grandchildren, Beau, Luna, Julian, and Calista.
Judy was born in Hackensack, NJ to the late Margaret (née Christians) and Thomas McEwan. Judy grew up in River Edge, and, when she started her own family, moved to Paramus, where she lived in the same home for more than 60 years. She was employed as a secretary with the Paramus Board of Education for many years and retired at the age of 80. Judy was a life-long member of the First Congregational Church of River Edge. Up until the last month of her life, Judy would spend her time gardening, caring for her pets, and having lunch with her friends from high school. But her favorite past time was spending time with her great-grandchildren, the light of her life.
All services are private and under the direction of the Beaugard-McKnight Funeral Home, River Edge.
As an expression of sympathy, please consider a donation in Judith’s memory to the Cape May County Zoo. Judy loved the family vacations spent at Cape May, and because of her love of animals, the family thought this was the best way to honor her memory.
