Patrick J. O’Donovan, of Dumont, NJ, died peacefully on November 1, 2021. Predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary (née Fitzpatrick) in 2010. Loving father of Theresa Mertz and her husband Eric. Cherished grandfather of Morgan, Matthew and Stevie Rae. Dear brother of Tim Joe, Peadar and Carrie of County Cork, Ireland. Predeceased by his brother, Rickard and his sister, Theresa.
Patrick was born in County Cork, Ireland to Ellen (née Hayes) and Rickard O’Donovan. He came to the United States in 1960 where he worked as a labor foreman with Heights Construction, Bronx, NY. Patrick and Mary were married in 1963 and they moved to Dumont in 1976. After his retirement from construction, Patrick became a crossing guard with the Alpine Police Dept., and he was a long-time member of the Bergen Irish Association of Dumont. Patrick enjoyed listening to Irish music, dancing, and spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed by many.
Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, November 4th, 9:30 AM at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Dumont. Interment will follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus. A celebration of Patrick’s life will take place on Wednesday, November 3rd, from 3-7 PM at the Beaugard-McKnight Funeral Home, 869 Kinderkamack Road, River Edge. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Patrick’s memory to Carner House, 280 Larch Avenue, Bogota, NJ 07603.
