Marie A. (Pilger) McDonough, born in Carteret but raised in New York City, loved summer vacations at the Jersey shore, a good book, and, most of all, Mike, her husband of more than sixty years. Despite declining health, she kept a sense of humor and youthful spirit until her death one-day short of her ninety-first birthday. Although she was born in New Jersey and lived all her married life in Bergen County, she was a New York girl at heart, having grown up in the “Beautiful Bronx,” where she attended Saint Philip Neri parish school and Saint Barnabas High School.

Marie raised five children in River Edge: Thomas (married to Ellen Hart), Patrice, Michael, Matthew (married to Joan), and Carol. And pictures of her grandchildren, Arthur McDonough, Michael McDonough, Megan Haller (married to Stephen), Christopher McDonough, Logan McDonough, and great-granddaughter Mara McDonough, filled her dining room hutch.

Visitation will be on Sunday, December 18, from 12:30 to 3:30 PM, at the Beaugard-McKnight Funeral Home at 869 Kinderkamack Rd., River Edge, NJ. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 19, at 11:15 AM at St. Peter the Apostle Church, 431 5th Ave, River Edge, NJ.
