| Joanne E. Hernandez, age 81, of River Edge, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2023. Mrs. Hernandez resided at Cedar Crest in Pompton Plains for the past several years. Prior to her retirement, she taught 7th and 8th grade Spanish for 40 years in the Dumont Public School district. She was a lifelong active member of the First Congregational Church of River Edge where she sang in the choir, played in the bell choir, and gave generously of her time to caring for her community. Joanne is survived by her beloved son John and wife Karen, daughter Justine Levine and husband Steve, and four adored grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Carlos and two brothers Ralph and Kenneth. A memorial service has been scheduled for March 4 at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of River Edge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Food Action food pantry in Englewood NJ. |
