Obituary

Alicia Romero, 92, of Paramus, New Jersey, died peacefully on October 8th, 2022. Beloved wife of Luis Romero, mother of Carmen Reynolds and Esther Roselli. Grandmother of Amanda, Matthew, Brandon, Timothy, and Julia.

August 3rd, 1930, in Havana, Cuba—October 8th, 2022, in Paramus, New Jersey.

Born to Manuel Lopez and Carmen Gutierrez in 1930, eldest of five children. Married to Luis Romero in 1961. Alicia fled Havana and the Castro Revolution with her family in 1967 and established a new life in New York City, eventually settling in Canarsie, Brooklyn, where they lived as a family for nearly 20 years.

She found opportunity in America for her and her family. For more than 20 years, Alicia worked at the Hampshire House, a luxury apartment building and architectural icon in Manhattan, as a housekeeper until her retirement. In her later years, she moved to Englewood, New Jersey, to be closer to her grandchildren after her husband’s death in 1990.

A loving mother and grandmother, Alicia is survived by her two daughters, Carmen and Esther, and her five grandchildren, Amanda, Matthew, Brandon, Timothy, and Julia.

A celebration of Alicia’s life will take place on Friday, October 14th, 4:00-8:00 PM at the Beaugard-McKnight Funeral Home, 869 Kinderkamack Road, River Edge, NJ. Funeral Mass Saturday, October 15th, 9:00 AM at Our Lady of Visitation Church, Paramus. Alicia will be laid to rest at Canarsie Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY.
