John J. McMahon, 80, peacefully passed away on March 20, 2022, in Bluffton, SC, lovingly surrounded by his devoted wife Laure (Mellusi) and friends. John was a caring and supportive husband, uncle, and friend to all whose lives he touched. John was born on May 25, 1941, in Manhattan, NY. Laura and John spent most of their lives in NYC and moved to Sun City in Bluffton in 2014.
John was a kind, shy, loving, thoughtful, sensitive, and funny guy. He was such a faithful man. He always said: “Never question the mind of God.” John was respected and liked by all his co-workers. He told the corniest jokes, but everyone loved them. It would be hard to find a person who didn’t like John! He loved good food, Manhattans, merlot wine, horse racing, chess, poker, the Yankees, and Laura (not necessarily in that order!)
John was predeceased by his parents, Anna (Schultz) and John McMahon, and his brother Jim McMahon. He is survived by his sister Mary Churley and several devoted nieces and nephews who considered him their favorite uncle.
The family wishes to express their special thanks and appreciation to the Hardeeville Fire Station 82 for their assistance and support over the past several months. They are truly a wonderful group of people, who were always there when needed. And last, but not least, the staff of South Carolina House Calls and Agape Care who devotedly cared for John and responded to his every need.
Visiting will be held on Sunday, April 3rd, 3-5 PM, with a funeral service at 5 PM, at the Beaugard-McKnight Funeral Home, 869 Kinderkamack Road, River Edge. Interment Monday, April 4th, 11 AM at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
