Obituary

William J. Duffany, 90, of Orangeburg, NY (formerly of Dumont, NJ and Huddleston, VA) died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on January 28, 2022.  He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Helen A. (née Hari), loving father of Catherine Flagg (predeceased), William Duffany Jr., Michael Duffany (predeceased), Lisa Waddon, Stephen Duffany, Peter Duffany, Debi Donofrio and Diane Andresen.  Cherished grandfather of 20 grandchildren, and great-grandfather of 4 great-grandchildren.  Predeceased by a sister Beverly Heil.

William was born in Schenectady, NY to Hazel (née Cusack) and Joseph Duffany.  He graduated St. Celia’s High School in Englewood, NJ in June1950 and in July 1950 joined the military.  He was a proud Army veteran serving on the 11th Airborn Division of the 511th Airborn Regiment 1950-53.  William worked for 25 years with Paradiso and Rosen as Foreman and eventually became a Superintendent with Morse Diesel International, a construction firm in New York City, retiring in 1992.  William lived in Dumont, NJ for 40 years, where all of his children were born and raised.  After retiring, he relocated to Huddleston, VA in 1994 where he lived for 24 years.    William was a member of the Knights of Columbus St. John’s Council #1345 Bergenfield, NJ, the American Legion Post #19, Bristol, VT, the Smith Mt. Lake Moose Lodge #2346 in Moneta, VA. William was a hardworking man, loyal and loving husband and patriotic American.  His family meant everything to him.

Funeral Mass Saturday, Feb. 5th, 11 AM at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, Dumont.  Cremation is private.  Visiting Friday, Feb. 4th, 4-8 PM at the Beaugard-McKnight Funeral Home, 869 Kinderkamack Rd., River Edge, NJ.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in William’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105; www.stjude.org.
