He was known to his family as Sonny. Sonny was born in Chelsea in New York City and attended St. Columba grammar school and La Salle Academy. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in Japan. He studied at Columbia and then Computer Science. Sonny worked on the first Univac at Franklin Institute and as a Field Engineer until his retirement from Ampex.
Sonny followed the sun during his retirement between Long Beach Island and Naples, Florida. He enjoyed playing Golf, sitting on the beach in front of the Naples Hotel, swimming on LBI and sipping the occasional apres-beach Vodka and Tonic with his good friend Roy.
Sonny also enjoyed Jazz, Rock and Roll and the New York Times crossword puzzle. Best known for his humor, Sonny wrote numerous stories, about his experiences and the people he met, and shared them with his family.
Everyone that knew him felt his kindness and love, especially his family. Generous beyond words he was loved by everyone; – little children and adults alike and even the many many dogs that passed through his life and homes.
Having made a difference in all of our lives, Sonny will be forever missed and never forgotten.
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Saturday, November 14, 2026, 11:00 AM at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, 445 Fifth Avenue, River Edge.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in his memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or St. Anthony’s Guild, Franciscan Friars in New York City.
