Obituary

Judith Ann Semmler, 81, of River Edge, New Jersey, died at home after a decades-long battle with cancer on October 16, 2025.

Judith was born in Hoboken, New Jersey in 1944 to John Alexander and Mildred Rottman and grew up in Ridgefield. She was educated at New York Phoenix School of Design and then went on to work as a commercial artist at McGraw Hill and Magazine Graphics, and as a salesperson at Henry’s Auto Body. As an adult she moved to Syracuse, New York, for about nine years, before returning to her home state.

She enjoyed gardening, playing with her grandkids, going to ShopRite, going on walks with her dog and family, and vacationing and bike riding in Hilton Head. Her many exceptional talents include drawing, painting, cooking, and being an awesome grandma.

Judith is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Henry Semmler; sister Carol Voorhis; daughter Elizabeth Napoleon, son-in law Craig Munch, and their daughter Madison Munch; daughter Alice Napoleon, son-in-law Nathan Jones, and their sons Owen and Benjamin Jones; step-son Scott Semmler; step-daughter Rachael Semmler; and step-son Brian Semmler, his sons Michael, Lucas, and Nicholas Semmler, and their mother, Zaidy Semmler. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her first husband and father of her children, James Napoleon; and by her beloved dog, Abby.

A memorial service will take place from 2:30 to 6:30 PM on Sunday, October 19, 2025 at the Beaugard-Mcknight Funeral Home at 869 Kinderkamack Rd, River Edge, NJ 07661. Donations to the American Cancer Society or the Environmental Defense Fund would be greatly appreciated.
