Obituary

Dr. Anthony G. Barbary of River Edge, NJ, formerly of Paterson, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2026. He was married to his loving wife, Louise (née Branca) for 52 years. He is the son of the late Anthony F. and Agnes Barbary, as well as the brother-in-law of Felice Branca, and the son-in-law of the late Frances and Frank Branca. Anthony will be truly missed by his beloved family and friends.

Anthony was an alumnus of Monctlair State (BA & MA degrees in music education) and Seton Hall Universities (Ed.S & Ed.D degrees in educational leadership and administration and supervision).

He was a former educator and administrator for 36 years, with a total of 41 years spent in the field of education. Anthony spent over 32 years with the Clifton Board of Education, holding several positions as an educator and administrator, from teacher of music through superintendent of schools. He was also a former adjunct university professor of education, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses.

After retirement, Anthony also held other interim administrative posts in public education. He was a member of the New Jersey Council of Education, and a former member of the New Jersey and National Associations of School Administrators. He also served as a trustee for 5 years on the River Dell Regional School District Board of Education.

For several years, he served as a member of the River Edge Citizens Budget Committee, assisting the Mayor and Council in the formation of the annual borough budget.

Anthony was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the Army Bands at Ft. Devens, MA and Stuttgart, Germany, and was a longtime member of the John Raad American Legion, Post #438.

He enjoyed traveling, investing, and financial investment research.

Anthony was proud to be a performing musician for 28 years, playing keyboards and bass guitar in bands within the New Jersey/New York metropolitan area.

All funeral services were private and under the direction of the Beaugard-McKnight Funeral Home, River Edge.
