Obituary

Suzanie Brennan (née Weinstock), 98, of Northvale, NJ died gently on January 23, 2025 at the Bristal of Englewood. Suzanie lived up to her name, as a zany, fun-loving, witty, wry, kind and loving person. She was the nexus of her family’s love and attention and suffered from a serious case of FOMO. She loved deeply and fiercely, positively impacting all she touched. Suzanie was an eternal champion of underdogs, notably stubborn and occasionally strict. She was ahead of her time as a strong and independent woman, who influenced her children and grandchildren to think for themselves, form their own opinions, and stand up for what they believed in. She faced and overcame numerous challenges throughout her life, including a broken hip, and 2 bouts of Covid in her 90’s, earning her the reputation of “badass.” She was an inspirational person, who believed in, “always leave them laughing.” She traveled through life with a sense of levity, while prioritizing her family, friends and having fun. Later in her life, when considering assisted living options, Suzanie requested, “I don’t want to cook or clean. I just want to dance and play all day!”

Predeceased by her loving husband John J. Brennan (2001), and her brother David Weinstock, Suzanie is survived by her children Patricia Brennan of Dumont, NJ, Anne Thomas of Southern Shores, NC, Susan DeLisio (Lou) of Northvale, NJ, and John Brennan of River Edge, NJ; grandchildren Michael Finetto (Nikki), Keri Congiusti (Michael), Shannon Urbanowicz (Steve), Claire Griffin (Brooks), Audra Thomas, Gina Delisio, and Nicole Delisio; great grandchild Teagan Congiusti, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Suzanie was born in the Bronx, NY to Sally (née Scher) and Sigmund Weinstock. She worked as an executive legal secretary and volunteered for a range of charities. She loved books and was an avid reader, accomplished puzzler, and also enjoyed performing in theater and drama with the “Melodieres,” while living in Toms River, NJ.

ARRANGEMENTS- Visitation will be held Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 11:00 am – 1:00 pm with a Celebration of Life service beginning at 12:00 pm at the Beaugard-McKnight Funeral Home, 869 Kinderkamack Road, River Edge, NJ.
