Obituary

JOYCE, Mary Anne passed away peacefully on November 27, 2024. A Native of Bracaragh, Caherdaniel, Co. Kerry, Ireland, Mrs. Joyce raised her family in New York City and Bogota before moving to River Edge. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Michael Joyce, her brothers John White and Michael White and grandson Tony Delesandro. She is survived by her children Anne Marie Delesandro, Della and her husband James F. Carroll, Michael and his wife Laura, Patrick and his wife Heather, and John Joyce as well as her brother, Joseph White. Mrs. Joyce is also survived by her grandchildren Shannon and her husband Matt, Caitlin and her husband Chris, Brett, Meaghan and her husband Dan, Alie, AJ, Kelsey, and Makayla; and great-grandchildren Emilia, Juliet, and Warren, who affectionately called her GaGa. In addition, she will be greatly missed by her caretaker and friend, Barbara, for whom the family is eternally grateful.

Mary Anne was born in Caherdaniel and moved to New York City in 1954 where she worked as an au pair until meeting her husband Michael in 1955. They married in November of 1956. Their five children followed, all while living as superintendents of an apartment building in the Inwood neighborhood of New York City. Mary Anne absolutely loved Inwood and enjoyed Sunday mornings at Gaelic Park. The entire Joyce clan would go religiously to watch Gaelic football and hurling matches. Mary Anne and Mike moved to Bogota in 1972 where they raised their children. She was an active member of the Bergen Irish Association and thoroughly enjoyed their dances and social events. After moving to River Edge she became a parishioner of St. Peter the Apostle Church in River Edge and remained such until her passing.

While Mary Anne will be remembered by all who knew her for so many different reasons, her role as caretaker is one of the most resounding. Mary Anne cared for everyone in her family with the selfless attitude of a saint; always making sure everyone had what they needed. Although everyone in her family was privileged enough to experience her care, none more than her husband, Mike. Mary Anne was his sole caretaker during his battle with ALS. A role she filled with love and attention that could not be matched. Her selfless attitude and genial nature is what her family will miss most of all.

Family will receive friends at The Beaugard-McKnight Funeral Home, 869 Kinderkamack Rd., River Edge, NJ, Sunday, December 1st from 3-7 PM. Funeral Mass Monday, December 2nd, 10:00 AM at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church in River Edge. Interment is at St. Anthony Cemetery in Nanuet, NY.
